Day 5 - Tiled

Tiler arrived at 8:15 and got right into lugging the tiles up the stairs.  They weigh a ton!  The walls will be tiled by four o'clock.  Then the electrician comes and lays down the heating mat that goes under the floor tiles so when the floor tiles are laid, we will have underfloor heating.

Day 4 ... Plastered

Monday morning: the English plasterers arrived and by lunchtime all the walls and the ceiling were plastered to perfection.  Now the new shower base is plumbed in and the tiler starts tomorrow.

Day 3 - The Vital Spark

'The spark' is the slang name for any electrician - for obvious reasons.  Today, Friday, is the day our spark lays in all the wiring for the shower room.  There is an amazing amount of it ...  6 ceiling spots, 6 wall lights, a shaver point, 2 heaters, 5 switches and 3 plug sockets.  As soon as Marion comes back from shopping, I am going in to John Lewis to buy glass shelves and then to Queen Street station to picket up our train tickets for our Arctic trip.  We will be leaving by ship from Aberdeen and flying back to London.  At only four hours, it is quicker, cheaper and easier to take the train back to Glasgow.

Day 2 - A Whole New Room

All the new walls are built and covered with plasterboard, the new door has been hung and most of the new plumbing is in place.  As well as that, the laundry and the spare room are covered in new lino that looks like planks of wood.  Tomorrow, the electrician arrives to wire up the whole shower room for lights, heaters, sockets etc.

Eleven On A Rope (joke)

Eleven people were hanging on a rope, under a helicopter  ..... ten men and one woman.  The rope was not strong enough to carry them all, so they decided that one had to leave. Otherwise  they were all going to fall.  They couldn't agree who that one person should be.   Finally, the woman gave a very touching speech. She said that she would voluntarily let go of the rope because, as a woman, she was used to giving up  everything for her husband and kids or for men in general and was used to always making sacrifices with  little in return. As soon as she finished her speech, all the men started clapping . . ..... . . .
