It's Rachel's 40th birthday tomorrow, Thursday, so we organised a big bunch of flowers to be sent to her house. While we were in town, I got an email from her saying that she and Alfie were leaving to fly to New York for the weekend so I had to quickly cancel the flowers. John is away filming in China and can't get get back in time for her birthday.
She also told me that Alfie has been picked to take part in a new Christmas Play called Rat'sTails written by the Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy.

Woken Early
Quarter to eight - the phone rings. It is Ikea saying they will deliver stuff this morning. Half an hour later, they are at the door with all the bits for the new wardrobes. They weigh a ton but they refuse to carry them upstairs and leave them propped up badly in the hall which makes the doors bend out of shape. Grrr!!!

Three In A Row
Marion got three of her paintings accepted for the big RGI Exhibition which opened last Saturday. This is the third year that she has had work accepted. Her good friend, Judith, who is a very successful painter (i.e. she sells loads of paintings), entered 6 of her works and none were accepted. She didn't get any accepted last year either. It is all a bit awkward because she is really upset about it and thinks the committee who do the choosing have got it in for her.

Saint Malo, Brittany
This is the famous fishing port of Saint Malo. The coastline is very dramatic: full of half hidden rocks and small islands topped with defensive forts. The tide is huge there ... anything up to 13 meters between high and low tides ... which is why they built the world's 2nd largest electricty generator dam between St Malo and Dinard.
