Fife Coast

Crail harbour, Fife

First really sunny day for ages.  Drove to Edinburgh and over the big Forth Bridge to Fife.  It's all flat farming country - rather boring.  Mainly famous now for golf courses and cute old  fishing villages like Crail.  Big traffic jam caused by an accident in one village - a lorry had knocked a man down.  BBC says he is in hospital fighting for his life.

Back From The Black Sea

Our flight left Istanbul a bit late and we landed in Gatwick about 8 pm which didn't leave much time to catch the 9::15 pm to Glasgow.  We had booked a cheap night in an hotel for safety but we just wanted to get home as quickly as possible.

First we had a long walk to get our luggage - one case took ages to arrive - then we had to queue to get through passport control, then get the shuttle train to the North Terminal and the lift up to the Departures floor and run all the way to the British Airways section where we went to two wrong desks before finding the one that could.change our tickets.  Luckily the flight was delayed and we were able to get on it so we ran all the way to the gate.  Everything was closed and we were SO thirsty by then.  The drinks machines would not take our Euro coins and we had no pound coins ... it was very frustrating!

It was nearly midnight by the time we got home.  There was no hot water and no food in the fridge so we just fell into bed and slept like .... well, like sailors.

Persistence Pays Off

Marion looked everywhere for a lightweight cotton jersey dressing gown that wasn't too short.  Couldn't even find one on the internet!  She had almost decided to make one herself when I happened to see a rail of sale stuff in M&S ... and one of them was a long grey jersey wrap-over.  Better still, it was reduced to £8!

Yellow Backpack

I went to Primark today to get small cheap backpacks for our holiday.  We are only allowed 5 kilos baggage in the aircraft cabin so I wanted the lightest bags possible.  I'd seen a whole wall of these brightly-coloured bags there a week ago.  Today I looked everywhere and couldn't see any.  In the end I found a few yellow ones and black ones in a heap on the floor  - all the rest had sold out.  No wonder: they are only £6 each.

Marion took Jess & Kara to the Dental Hospital this afternoon ... good to hear it all went well.

Edible Art

Even if you don't recognise these famous works of art, you must admit that they look pretty good!

Red Scarf From Pink Poodle

Thursday:  Marion went to her dental surgeon for a check-up x-ray of her dental implants and was told that they are in good condition.  After, we met up at Cafe Delizique and then walked round to Pink Poodle to get a bright red scarf to go with the blue and white clothes she has looked out for our cruise next week.

Lots of washing and ironing needing done ... and now the tumble-drier has broken down!

Rachel, John & Alfie are flying off to Barcelona in Spain for a long weekend tomorrow.  Barcelona is a fabulous city ... probably my favourite, after Paris.

Flamingoes Fighting

Here is a short movie clip I took when we were in the wild bird sanctuary in the Camargue.  Basically, they squabble and fight all the time and the noise is hilarious.
